Trillium Community Forest
Project Name: Trillium Community Forest
Location: Whidbey Island, WA
Project Type: Community Forest Restoration & Sustainable Management
The largest undeveloped tract on Whidbey Island was once a struggling, overstocked tree farm. Today, it’s a thriving community forest thanks to a long-term partnership between the Whidbey Camano Land Trust and Janicki Logging Co. This multi-phase project showcases how ecological thinning, collaborative planning, and community trust can renew an entire ecosystem.

Partners: US Forest ServiceThinning in overstocked stands to improve Northern Spotted Owl & Marbled Murrelet Habitat, reduce wildfire risk, and improve forest resilience on a watershed scale.

Middle Fork Nooksack River Fish Passage
Location: Whatcom County, WA
Project Type: Fish Habitat Restoration
Partners: NOAA, Nooksack Indian Tribe, Lummi Nation, Long Live the Kings, American Rivers, City of Bellingham, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, The Walsh Group, and others.Dam removal is needed to restore 16 miles of spawning habitat for threatened steelhead, bull trout, and Chinook salmon, which are vital food sources for endangered southern resident killer whales.

Partners: US Forest ServiceA holistic "ecosystem-based" approach to aquatic and terrestrial habitat restoration in a sensitive headwaters area. JLC’s role in the fishery enhancements for the Finney Creek project focused on forest health and raptor hunting and nesting habitat at higher elevations.
